About porches
A porch does two useful things at once. It gives you somewhere for coats, boots and parcels, and it puts a second door between the hallway and the weather, which makes a noticeable difference to how draughty the front of the house feels.
The thing that decides whether a porch looks right is whether the brick and the roof tiles match. We source to match rather than to whatever is closest on the merchant's rack, and we keep the proportions in line with the existing frontage.
Common questions
Do I need planning permission for a porch?
Usually not, provided it stays under three square metres, under three metres high and no closer than two metres to a boundary facing a road. We check the specifics at the survey.
Can you match the brick?
Nearly always. Brick matching is a big part of whether a porch looks original or bolted on, so it is worth the time it takes to source properly.
