Garage conversions

A garage turned into a room you would actually want to sit in — not a store with a carpet on it.

About garage conversions

Most garages in Merseyside are too narrow for a modern car and end up storing bikes and a freezer. Converting one is the cheapest square footage you will ever add to a house, because the walls and the roof are already there.

The old door opening is bricked up and a window goes in, the floor is levelled and insulated, and the space is boarded, plastered, wired and heated so it reads as part of the house rather than a converted garage.

Use the new space however you like — a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, a home office or a gym.

FAQs

Common questions

How long does a garage conversion take?

Typically two to three weeks depending on how much is involved — insulation, blockwork to the old door opening, glazing, electrics, plastering and finishing.

Do I need planning permission to convert a garage?

Usually not, as long as the work is internal and you're not changing the footprint. Building control does need to be involved, and we handle that.

Will it feel cold, like a garage?

Not if it's done properly. The floor, walls and roof are all insulated to current standards and the heating is extended into the room, which is the part that gets skipped on a cheap job.

What guarantees do you offer?

All our windows and doors come with a comprehensive 10-year insurance-backed guarantee, so the cover outlasts the invoice. Roofing and building work carries its own guarantee, and ProPERLA coatings come with a 10-year manufacturer's guarantee on top of ours.
